Organic Social for AR / VR / Metaverse Companies

by Jason Shafton

Most AR and VR companies post demos nobody shares and threads nobody reads because their social team doesn't understand what makes immersive tech interesting to an audience that hasn't tried it yet. Winston Francois embeds operators who know how to translate spatial computing into content that builds real communities. We've done this for companies at Series A through pre-IPO.

The Problem

Demo Content Doesn't Convert Followers Into Believers

AR and VR products live and die by first-person experience, which is the hardest thing to communicate through a 2D social feed. Most teams default to screen recordings and headset unboxings that look impressive to people who already get it and mean nothing to the audience you actually need to reach. The result is a follower count that grows slowly, engagement that stays shallow, and social channels that function more like press release feeds than community hubs. When your next funding round or enterprise sale depends on market awareness, a social presence that doesn't convert observers into advocates is a real liability.

Technical Teams Write for Technical Audiences

Founders and engineers in AR/VR are often brilliant at explaining the technology to other engineers and investors, but that skill doesn't translate to social content that resonates with developers, early adopters, enterprise buyers, or platform partners. Posts that lead with polygon counts, latency specs, or SDK version updates get ignored by everyone except the three people who already use your product. The gap between what your team knows how to say and what your target audience needs to hear is where most AR/VR organic social programs break down.

Platform Algorithms Punish Inconsistency

Building organic reach in any category requires showing up with the right content format at the right cadence over time. For AR/VR companies, this is harder because the relevant platforms – LinkedIn for enterprise buyers, X for developer communities, TikTok and Instagram for consumer products – each require fundamentally different content approaches. Most internal teams try to manage all of them at once, end up inconsistent on every one, and watch their algorithmic reach decay. A team that posts three times one week and nothing for the next two weeks is teaching the algorithm to stop distributing their content.

Your Competitors Are Building Communities You're Not

The AR/VR space is still early enough that category leadership can be built on organic social if you move first. The companies that become the default reference points in your vertical – the ones journalists quote, the ones developers build on top of, the ones enterprise buyers benchmark against – are usually the ones that started building a real audience 18 months before it felt necessary. If your competitors are actively growing developer communities on Discord, building thought leadership on LinkedIn, and creating shareable content on short-form video platforms while you're still debating your content strategy, that gap compounds quickly.

How We Help

The first thing we do when we engage with an AR/VR company is audit what's actually working and what isn't – not based on vanity metrics but based on content that drives the behaviors you care about: profile clicks, website traffic, inbound demo requests, developer signups, and press pickups.

From the audit we build a platform strategy that reflects your actual business goals. If you're selling to enterprise IT buyers, your LinkedIn content strategy looks completely different than if you're trying to build a developer community or grow a consumer install base.

Execution is where most agency relationships break down for AR/VR companies. The content needs to be technically accurate, which means your subject matter experts need to be involved. But if the process requires your engineers or founders to review and approve every post, output slows to a crawl.

For AR/VR companies, we prioritize content formats that solve the core translation problem: how do you make someone who has never worn a headset understand why your product matters.

Measurement is set up before we start, not after. We define what organic social is supposed to do for your business – generate qualified inbound, support enterprise sales cycles, build developer community, or all three – and we instrument tracking so we can report on those outcomes, not just reach and impressions.

What we deliver

The hardest organic social problem in AR/VR isn't producing content – it's finding the story that makes someone who has never tried spatial computing understand why your product matters to their life or work before they ever touch it.

Our Methodology

Winston Francois runs 90-day engagement sprints. The first 30 days are audit and strategy: we review existing content performance, interview your team, map your competitive landscape on social, and produce a platform strategy with clear success criteria. No content goes out in month one until we know what we're building toward.

Days 31 through 60 are execution ramp. We start publishing on the platforms we've prioritized, test content formats, and establish the operating rhythm between your team and ours. We're looking for early signals on what resonates – which formats drive clicks, which topics generate engagement from the right people, which distribution tactics are working. We adjust based on what we see, not what we assumed.

Days 61 through 90 are full production and measurement. By this point we have a clear picture of what's working, and we're optimizing toward it. At the end of 90 days we deliver a retrospective with hard data on what organic social did for your business and a recommendation for what the next 90 days should look like. This model keeps us accountable and keeps you from paying for a strategy that isn't working.

How We Work

The first 30 days are diagnostic. We are not publishing content while we are still learning your product, your audience, and your competitive position. We audit your existing social presence, interview your founders and product team, and map what your competitors are doing on every relevant platform. By day 30 we have a written strategy with specific platform recommendations, content format priorities, and measurable success criteria that you have reviewed and approved.

On the Winston Francois side, your engagement is staffed by a dedicated content operator, a strategist who oversees the program, and a creative resource for video and graphic production. On your side, we need a single point of contact who can answer technical questions and do a weekly 30-minute review. We deliberately minimize the time we take from your engineering and product teams because we know their attention is the scarcest resource at most AR/VR companies.

The weekly rhythm is: content published on schedule, a brief async performance update every Friday, and a 30-minute strategy call every two weeks. Monthly we do a deeper review of metrics tied to your business outcomes. We use a shared project management workspace so you always know what's going out and when, and you have approval authority on anything that touches product claims or company announcements.

Most of our AR/VR engagements run 6 to 12 months. Organic social compounds over time – the audience you build in month three is still paying dividends in month nine – so short engagements rarely generate meaningful business outcomes. We are honest about this at the start of every engagement. If your timeline or budget doesn't support a sustained program, we'll tell you that before you sign.

If your ar / vr / metaverse company needs organic social leadership, we should talk.

Frequently asked questions

How much does an Organic Social engagement cost for AR / VR / Metaverse companies?

Most AR/VR organic social engagements with Winston Francois run between $15,000 and $35,000 per month depending on the number of platforms, content volume, and whether video production is included. That range reflects a fully embedded operator plus strategy oversight and creative resources.

How long before we see results from Organic Social?

The honest answer depends on what you mean by results. Early engagement signals – content that gets shared, comments from the right people, traffic to your site from social – typically appear within the first 60 days if the content strategy is right.

How does the Organic Social team integrate with our existing staff?

We embed into your existing operating rhythm rather than creating a parallel process. The dedicated content operator assigned to your account attends relevant standups, has direct access to your product and engineering team for technical questions, and uses your existing communication tools.

What makes Winston Francois different from a traditional Organic Social agency?

Most agencies manage your social channels at arm's length – they receive a brief, produce content, and report on reach and impressions without ever developing a real understanding of your product or business. Winston Francois operates the way a senior in-house hire would: the person running your program learns your product deeply, understands your sales cycle, and measures their work against your business outcomes rather than follower growth.

How do you measure ROI from Organic Social for AR / VR / Metaverse?

We measure against the business outcomes that matter for your specific situation, not industry-standard vanity metrics. For companies selling to enterprise buyers, that means tracking how many inbound conversations are attributable to social touchpoints, how social content is influencing sales cycle length, and whether your brand is being referenced in conversations you weren't invited to.

What type of AR / VR / Metaverse company is the right fit?

We work best with AR/VR companies that have shipped a product or are 60 to 90 days from launch, have a clear target audience (enterprise buyers, developers, or a defined consumer segment), and have internal stakeholders who can give us technical access and product context. We are not the right fit for companies that need social media management as a checkbox activity or that don't have the patience for a 90-day build before expecting business outcomes.
